Elm for Overwhelm

As we ride the June wave up to the full moon and the eclipse, there is a lot going on in the skies right now that is really being reflected on earth. Not only are we in the run up to the summer solstice, the time when the days are at their longest and the light is at its height, but there are a number of personal planets currently in retrograde with more to come later in the month! It's not at all surprising that being on earth at the moment, with all that is going on,

feels rather intense. With the energies so big, if you are anything like me, you might be feeling quite overwhelmed; many I speak to are. We are being asked to integrate a lot of change, some isolation, fear, but also some new ways of living and being that are not all bad: more time for ourselves, retreat, quiet and reflection. I for one am feeling nervous about the lifting of the lockdown and wondering how this will play out for our old and vulnerable, our NHS workers and those on the frontline over the coming weeks and months. If you are feeling rather overwhelmed right now too, be reassured that it is very much collective in response to the these shifting energies, its not just you. Hang in there, this is going to feel a little easier once the full moon in Sagittarius has passed through on Friday and we head back towards the dark moon for a little release, rest and repose.

Until then I offer you Elm. One of Dr Bach's original flower essences and a key essence for feelings of complete overwhelm. In his words, Elm is for "those who are doing good work, are following their calling in life and who hope to do something of importance, and this is often for the benefit of humanity. At times there may be be periods of depression when they feel that the task they have undertaken is too difficult, and not within the power of a human being". Those of us in service roles will benefit greatly from taking Elm at this time. My experience of this essence is that it brings us back to our centre when we are feeling scattered. Overwhelm arises when we are focused in too many places at once. Like the elm tree which grows straight and tall, Elm essence helps us to regain the sense that we are grounded, upright and can remain so no matter the storms. It also brings the ability to focus on what is truly important for us. With this focus on our mission again, the overwhelm and scattered feelings dissolve and we regain the sense that we can accomplish all that needs to be done with ease and joy in the process. I am taking it myself right now and its grounding softness feels like sweet relief in the midst of chaos. If you have some Elm at home I encourage you to try a dose and let me know if it helps
